Professor Nabeel Riza of the School of Engineering, University College Cork, Ireland has been appointed to the Royal Irish Academy (RIA) Engineering & Computer Science Committee. He is the sole UCC academic on this committee. The committee’s distinguished members come from a variety of engineering and computer science disciplines across the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland (UK). The committee addresses and raises issues, including those of public concern, and advises the Academy on the formulation of engineering and computer science policy at national, European and international levels. The RIA founded in 1785 is Ireland’s premier body of experts in the sciences and humanities. In addition to the approximately 400 members there are also more than 60 distinguished honorary members, who in the past have included Charles Darwin, Enrico Fermi, Max Planck, Albert Einstein and Max Born.
